Description:
The installation consists of: seven printed digital collages on paper, seven printed fabric banners with wooden sticks, printed fabric dress and animated video loop played on an LCD monitor.
Your Body is a Battleground is an appropriation artwork – by the procedure of combining Frida Kahlo’s paintings and Barbara Kruger’s slogans taken from her photograph collages, I redefine the original author’s intention and create new (yet similar) meaning.
Video loop is a simple two-frame animation as a combination of slogan and photograph taken from two different Kruger’s collages.
The message is reconstructed according to the context of contemporary society, where the position of woman’s personality and body (as the symbol of desire and property) is questioned and valued.
